I am sure that many of you have read the letter that the PTO sent out about Brookline teachers working without a contract. I want you to know that these changes will be extremely difficult for me, but are a necessary step. I also want you to know that I will continue to meet the needs of your child in the classroom: they are my top priority. I hope that there will be a quick resolution and things will go back to normal. Unfortunately, this will be the last classroom blog I will be able to send out until there is a fair contract put in place.
Please note that until we have a new contract, teachers will respond to emails only on school days, and only between 7:30 am – 3:00 pm. In addition, teachers will not write or send newsletters, nor will teachers be posting class blogs. If you are concerned by our limits on parent contact, please email the school committee members and urge them to settle a fair contract with the Brookline Educators Union : susan_ditkoff@brookline.k12.ma.us barbara_scotto@brookline.k12.ma.us ben_chang@brookline.k12.ma.us helen_charlupski@brookline.k12.ma.us michael_glove@brookline.k12.ma.us lisa_jackson@brookline.k12.ma.us david_pollak@brookline.k12.ma.us rebecca_stone@brookline.k12.ma.us beth_stram@brookline.k12.ma.us Thank you for your continued support!

100 words! The boys and girls had a fun time writing 100 words that we have learned this year in 1R! We are very proud of our hard work! Traveling In First GradeWe loved traveling to the other first grade classrooms to celebrate the 100th Day of School! The boys and girls participated in a range of academic activities based on the number 100. We built structures out of 100 cups, played math games based on 100, and made collages of ourselves at 100 years old! Take a look at some of the fun below! Today, we connected with our 2CM buddies in Hong Kong! Each of us has one or more student partners who comment on our blogs. We comment on theirs as well. We are careful to always use our heads to be safe and our hearts to be kind online. It is exciting to hear from our partners who live on the other side of the world! We were so excited to receive a special package from 2CM today. They sent us some special items to help us celebrate the Lunar New Year!
First graders enjoyed a wide range of activities across all four classrooms as we celebrated the Lunar New Year. Take a look at the boys and girls in action as they traveled to each first grade room!
We have been carefully observing the growth and development of our painted lady larva. It is amazing how quickly they have nearly doubled in size! The 1R scientists have been doing a great job recording their observations in their science notebooks.
1R Writes ReviewsOur 1R authors have been working hard on reviews. From restaurants and parks to tv shows and movies, the children each chose something to review that is important to them. They have been doing an incredible job with this work!
