This week students have continued to explore China. The boys and girls had a great time with a special guest who taught us all about the Chinese tradition, ribbon dancing. We learned about the origin of ribbon dancing and looked at the clothing that is traditionally worn. Not only did we watch a wonderful performance, but each of the students were able to try ribbon dancing on their own! It was fun to use our movements to make the ribbon dance. We had a great time! Take a look at some of our 1R dancers below. We have begun our social studies unit on China this week in 1R! Students enjoyed investigating the Terracotta Army. The boys and girls looked at pictures and non fiction texts to learn more about these sculptures that depicted the army of the first Emperor of China. We then did an art project where the students each created their own terracotta warrior. We had fun using bright colors to make them look as they did when they were buried over 2,000 years ago!
