Inspired by Grace Lin's book, Fortune Cookie Fortunes, we wrote our own fortunes to put inside "cookies" in class today! We were surprised to learn that fortune cookies were invented here in the United States. They are truly a Chinese American food.

We loved learning about giant pandas as part of our China unit. The boys and girls then used collage techniques to create their own pandas peeking out from their favorite food....bamboo!
We have so much fun with our Secret Reader each week! Click on 'Helpful Information' and then 'Secret Reader' to sign up to come in and read to 1R.
We are comparing our lives here in Brookline with those of children in Beijing, China. By reading the amazing book, One Year in Beijing, we are learning what boys and girls our age do in China throughout the year. We then write about what children do each month in both countries. It is fun to notice our similarities and differences. We were so excited to observe that our ladybugs are in the adult stage. We watched food chains in action as they preyed upon the aphids that have been eating our broad bean plants. Many thanks to Merck for their generous grant that made this unit possible!
