We discovered that colored pencils are the ideal tools for drawing in science. By changing how hard we press, we can create many colors with each one and use the points to make small details easily. We will be using these skills often in our science notebooks this year.
The first grade will be visiting the Children’s Museum in Boston on Thursday, October 2, 2014 as the culmination of our Marc Brown author study. This is a special trip, and we need as many chaperones as possible. Volunteers will meet us at the museum and enjoy the exhibits with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Further information is coming soon!
All chaperones need to make sure that their CORI forms are updated (they need to be updated every 3 years). We hope you can be part of this special day! We drew what we think scientists look like including what tools they may be using and where they may be working. We pasted these great pictures into our science notebooks. Then, we shared our work in our science meeting!
After we tweeted about learning the American National Anthem, a first grade classroom in Canada told us that they sing their anthem every day too. So, we listened to the Canadian National Anthem and they listened to ours! We love sharing our learning with the world using Twitter!
We are learning to sing the National Anthem. We learned the history of this song too and that the word, banner, means a flag!
Math is all around us! We enjoyed thinking about numbers that are important to us. Our work is now hanging outside of our 1R classroom.
