We had another terrific reader this past week in 1R! She even brought a special guest (seated in her lap in the photo above!)
First graders worked together to build number lines. Students were able to explain their thinking regarding both the size and the order of the numbers. Later in the week, we learned how to use the number line as a tool for both addition and subtraction problems. We coded the beginning number, size of the "jump", and the landing number.
The boys and girls then built a number line chunk of their choice and used it to model an addition or subtraction sentence with a jump of two. This work can be found on their student blogs! We used tuning forks to hear and feel vibrations. We then predicted what we thought they would do when placed in water!
We began using number lines this week as tools for both addition and subtraction. We built our own floor number line and had our friend, Froggy,
Miss Osberger and Magic C Bunny worked with us on how to use the 'c' shape to write a series of lowercase letters.
