We investigated the vibrations made in our throats by feeling our partners' throats when they talked and emitting sounds into pieces of wax paper. Feeling the vibrations for ourselves was amazing! We then wrote about our findings in our science notebooks, and shared them during the science meeting.

We share our work with one another often. First graders are developing their oral communication skills in conjunction with their reading and writing skills.
We used white paint on blue paper and pressed it together to make a variety of pictures. Then, we wrote what we thought the resulting images look like. We all enjoyed recording ourselves reading our work for our student blogs!
There are many ways to solve story problems. Today, we worked on drawing a picture and then writing the corresponding number sentence. 1R students did a great job determining if the problems required addition or subtraction and then figuring out the answer. Below, two students are modeling their work for the class.
On Friday, we investigated different ways and materials to use to make sounds such as tuning forks, wax paper, and boomwhackers! Then, we had a science talk discussing what strategies you can use to make different sounds using the same objects.
