adding numbers 1-10
This week the boys and girls learned a new strategy using a tool we carry with us everywhere we go, our hands! 1R students practiced putting some fingers up and keeping other down to solve addition problems working with numbers 1-10. We traced the hands of a partner and did a paper art project for the hallway to share the new strategy we learned.
1R students continued to expand their math knowledge by working with groups of ten. Each student practiced this using math cubes. The boys and girls each made one tower of ten. Leftover cubes led us to a discussion about the tens and ones places of two digit numbers. We documented how many "tens" and "ones" we each had, then practiced combining and reading our final numbers.
